Boston @ NYR

On Sunday night NYR played host to Boston in the Madison Square Garden. Boston needed a win to clinch the North East Division championship.

Both teams on the ice to start the game. Boston took control of the faceoff and game 79 is underway. It was a very interesting start to the game, as it was very much like a play off game rather than a regular game. Both teams were trading chances in the first 5 minutes of the game. Within 22 seconds NYR takes the lead. Boston's captain had a shot on goal but unfortunately Jordan Caron was in the way of the shot and got hit hard. Luckily the injury was not serious as he came back into the game after been treated on the bench. NYR's Marion Gaborik broke away and with a snap shot, he put the puck past Tim Thomas and into Boston's net to make it 1-0 NYR. NYR are in front 4 shots on goal to Boston's 2. For the remainder of the period Boston put pressure on the NYR goal tender Henrik Lundqvist but not to prevail. But give Henrik Lundqvist credit, he is a very good goaltender. The horn sounded to end the 1st period. NYR took a early goal but Boston showed a lot of heart and outshot NYR with Boston having 7 shots on goal to NYR's 5 after 20 minutes.

Both teams are back on the ice for the 2nd period. The first 3 minutes of the 2nd, both teams didnt really tested any of the Goaltenders. On the 4th minute of the 2nd Boston scored to tie the game 1-1. Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg with a slap shot to put the puck past Henrik Lundqvist and into the NYR's net to score his 5th goal of the season. Zdeno Chara with his 40th assist of the season and Brad Marchand with his 27th of the season. Carl Hagelin and Brad Marchand got tangled up in the corner and the Rangers player lost his helmet, Boston has carried the player of late, with under 10 minutes left in the 2nd. less than a minute NYR's Michael Del Zotto  goes to the box for interference call.Micheal Del Zotto goes to the box for 2 minutes. Boston's PP is 14th in the NHL with 17.1% and NYR penalty kill is 5th in the NHL with 86.6%. During the PP Boston took the advantage, and scored the 3 goal of the night and Boston's 2nd goal of the night. Patrice Bergeron with a wrist shot and found a hole between Henrik Lundqvist and the post to put the puck into the net. Patrice Bergeron with his 22nd goal of the season. Tyler Seguin with his 38th of the season. Boston 2 NYR 1. With less than 7 minutes to go Boston's Milan Lucic goes to the box, he also got a interference call. Milan Lucic goes to the box for 2 minutes. NYR's PP is 25th in the NHL with 15.3% and Boston's penalty kill is 10th in the NHL with 83.5%. For the remainder of the 2nd NYR up the physical ante, looking for a equalizer. Boston's Shawn Thornton looked to have challenged Brian Boyle at the end of the 2nd. Shawn Thornton goes to the box for 2 minutes, for a Unsportsmanlike conduct. Boston will start the 3rd short handed. After 40 minutes Boston still leads 2-1 Boston are also out-shooting NYR, with Boston having 18 shots on goal to NYR 15.

Both teams are back on the ice for the final period of the game. Just 46 seconds gone NYR goes on the PP, Dan Paille goes to the box for 2 minutes for a delay of game call. Dan Paille, flicked the puck over the glass. Tim Thomas killed the penalty with a nice save, a huge Penalty Kill for Boston. Boston's goaltender Tim Thomas has been excellent for Boston, since the start of the game. On the 16th minute Boston goes on the PP, NYR's John Mitchell goes to the box for 2 minutes with a too many men on the ice call. Rich Peverley and Anton Stralman with a few pushes and shoves after the whistle behind the NYR's goal, no penalties called. For the remainder of the game both teams tested each other Goaltender's but with no prevail. The horn sounds to finish the game. Boston won the game 2-1. Boston with a huge win.
