NYR @ Boston

On January 19th Boston played host to the New York Rangers at the TD Garden,  on the opening day of the 2013 season. Who will come out on top?

1st Period

Straight from the start BOS went on a Power Play as NYR's Carl Hagelin went to the box for a interference call. NYR managed to kill the penalty with the score tied at 0-0. BOS gave debuts to Dougie Hamilton and Chris Bourque. BOS started the better team, and within the first 7 mins of the first period, the Bruins were 4 shots to 1 on goal. In the 9th min of the 1st NYR got their first PP as BOS's Adam McQuaid went to the box for a interference call. During the NYR's PP Brian Boyle went to the box for a double penalty call (goaltender interference and unsportsmanlike conduct). With 6 minutes left of the 1st period BOS scored the opener, Milan Lucic.

Lucic celebrates his 1st goal of the Season and BOS's 1st goal of the season.

Andrew Ference started the play with a beautiful breakout pass that hit David Krejci in stride at the NYR blueline. Krejci had the initial shot on Henrik Lundqvist from the right circle, and a racing Lucic put home the huge rebound from the harsh marks. NYR went on the PP with 6 secs left of the 1st as Ference went to the box for interference.

The horn sounds to end the 1st period. BOS leads 14 shots to NYR's 7 shots on goal.

Second Period

In the 5th min of the 2nd NYR's Brandon Segal went to the box for a hooking call. BOS led the shots on goal since the puck dropped. With 9 mins of the 2nd BOS went 2-0 thanks to Daniel Paille.

Paille celebrates with his team mates with his 1st goal of the season and BOS's 2nd goal.

Paille took the advantage of the NYR's turnover in BOS's zone and shot down the left wing, dishing Gregory Campbell. Paille then drove to the net and the puck deflected off Campbell's shot.14 secs after Paille's goal, NYR went on the PP as BOS's Zdeno Chara went to the box for a interference call. NYR's Brad Richards reduced the deficit to 2-1.

Richards celebrates with his team mates with his 1st goal of the season and the Game's 3rd goal.

Richards go with high stick on Tuukka Rask from top of the right circle. The assists on Richards Goal are Rick Nash and Dan Giraldi.

With 13:35 mins gone in the 2nd period, BOS's Shawn Thornton and NYR's Michael Rupp squared off  above the spoked-B at the center ice. Thornton got a couple of right hooks that drew cheers from the crowd and Thornton ended up with Rupp on the ice.

Thornton's and Rupp's fight at center ice.

Thornton landed pretty some effective short jabs and earned the decision. Just three seconds after the Thornton and Rupp's fight, Campbell and Stu Bickel squared off right from the faceoff. Just inside BOS's blue line a lot of quick jabs were thrown and both ended up on the ice.

Campbell with a bloody face after the fight with Bickel.

An eventful second period came to an end. BOS leading with 25 shots to NYR's 15 on goal and BOS with 63% of the faceoffs.

3rd Period

BOS's Krejci won the draw at the center ice to get the final period under way. BOS's  Lucic was called for boarding with 3:53 on the clock. Chara followed closely with a hooking call with 04:23 gone in the 3rd. Johnny Boychuck cleared the puck, and the puck travelled the length of the ice. BOS went on the PP as NYR's Nash went for a hooking call with 6:04 gone in the 3rd.

BOS thought they had a 3rd goal of the night, when Lucic fed Krejci through the crease and Lundqvist robbed Krejci, by gloving it over the goal line. But unfortunately after the play was reviewed the goal was not given and it stayed 2-1 BOS. It wouldnt be long to BOS getting their 3rd goal of the night. With 8:03 gone BOS's Boychuk got his first goal of the season. it was a special day for Boychuk as he celebrated his 29th birthday .

Patrice Bergeron won the faceoff and gave the puck back to Boychuk who then fired a rocket through the tr traffic and the puck landed in the NYR's goal. The puck was deflected off bodies in front. But Bergeron might of gotten a touch but the goal was given to Boychuk and the assist went to Bergeron.

Nearing the end of the game, BOS's Lucic was pushing and shoving after the whistle with Ryan Mc Donough and Giraldi.  Lucic had some words with Rupp as they both headed back to their benches. Lucic was given a game misconduct call. With 2:35 left in the game the NYR pulled their goalie from the game. BOS still holding the 3-1 lead. Chris Bourque sailed one over the empty net from just outside the blue line, for his debut goal. The horn sounds to end the game.
